Land Rover Discovery 2 Information
Land Rover Discovery 2 information, history and specifcations
In 1999, the second generation of Discovery was launched, known as the Land Rover Discovery 2 or the Discovery MK2. It was longer and wider than the Discovery 1, allowing for more interior space. It was redesigned to be less utilitarian, and more of an everyday family car.
The addition of self-levelling suspension was introduced along with an electronically managed in-line direct-injected straight five 2.5-litre diesel engine known as the TD5 to produce a smoother ride and more power than its 300Tdi predecessor. The V8 petrol engine was replaced with a 4.0-litre engine and a new exhaust fitted to improve the vehicle's performance.
The addition of Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE), an electronically controlled hydraulic anti-roll bar system was fitted to some versions of the Land Rover Discovery 2 to reduce cornering roll.
The ACE computer counteracts the angle of body lean and allows the vehicle to become more responsive and stable when going hard around corners.
In 2002, the Land Rover Discovery 2 Facelift model was released. It was easy to distinguish from the Discovery 2, with its new styled headlamps and redesigned tail and brake lights, along with the indicators repositioned to the high side fixtures.
